Operation Insight was founded by Dr. Gregg Feinerman in 2005 to provide vision correction procedures for local public servants or financially disadvantaged patients who could not afford the cost of treatment. Dr. Feinerman is nationally renowned for his work at Feinerman Vision Center within LASIK and cataract surgeries and his practice has always been known for being the leader in having the most advance surgical technology in his practice.
Due to this, Dr. Feinerman developed this organization as a means to give back to underserved communities to perform surgery with his craft and to teach the newest technology to his colleagues the latest advancements in eye surgeries. The program is a great success and, within two years, expanded Operation Insight’s reach internationally. In 2007, Dr. Feinerman spearheaded a mission to rural Vietnam to train surgeons on the latest techniques for cataract eye surgery. To help his students practice their new training and get a feel for surgery, Dr. Feinerman was able to devise a unique teaching technique using grapes. After teaching the surgeons, Dr. Feinerman assisted them in performing cataract surgeries on patients. The waiting rooms were packed with people, but the doctors treated as many people as possible.
When interviewed by the Orange County Register about his experiences with Operation Insight, Dr. Feinerman replied, “The bottom line is, I went into this field to help other people. And that’s what I did.” Doctor Feinerman also expressed confidence in his colleagues’ ability to treat even more patients with their new technology and training.
In the last part of February, Dr. Feinerman traveled to Cambodia training staff on the use of new technology and surgical techniques. With $100,000 worth of supplies donated by Alcon, Dr. Feinerman will be performing 100 free surgeries on patients most in need of help.
